Tesla Recalls Cybertruck’s Due to Faulty Accelerator Pedals
Tesla is recalling all 3,878 Cybertrucks delivered to date because of an issue with the accelerator pedal getting stuck, which could lead to crashes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall, marking a challenging week for Tesla. Earlier this week, Tesla laid off over 10% of its workforce and lost two top executives. Additionally, the company is asking shareholders to re-vote CEO Elon Musk's compensation package after it was struck down by a judge.
Pedal Issues
Problems with the Cybertruck's accelerator pedal emerged in recent weeks, prompting Tesla to pause deliveries. Elon Musk assured customers that Tesla was acting cautiously and reported no crashes or injuries related to the issueTesla explained to NHTSA that the accelerator pedal can dislodge and get stuck in the trim around the footwell. The issue was traced to an unapproved change involving lubricant used during assembly. This lubricant caused the pedal pad to lose retention The company will replace or rework the accelerator pedal on all existing Cybertrucks. Tesla has also started building Cybertrucks with a new pedal design and is fixing vehicles still in transit or at delivery centers.
This isn't the first recall for the Cybertruck. Earlier this year, Tesla recalled software on all its vehicles due to small font sizes in warning lights. By quickly addressing the pedal issue, Tesla aims to keep customer trust and ensure Cybertruck's safety.
